Change of Season

This piece bagan as a collage made of scrap pieces of maps of Texas. Texture was added and then the piece was toned before painting the geese. I love that behind the texture and the light veil of paint, you can still see the rivers and roads of Texas.

When I was little, one of my favorite things was the changing of seasons. After a hot humid Louisiana summer, there was a cool breeze, and with it came the sound of geese flying overhead. Fall was coming. My job was to gather kindling while the others cut logs for the fireplace.

Then, after a long cold winter, they would fly back up north. This time, bringing in springtime and summer as they passed through. I would listen as we worked the garden beds. I know the goose call is not the most beautiful sound there is, but it’s seriously one of my favorite things. It takes me back to being outside, riding bikes and picking clover flowers. It reminds me of simple times-full of play, work and joy.

It reminds me that all of those things can be worship. Play. Work. Joy.
